Am I missing you all?

After a hectic day at office, I reached the bus shelter to board my bus to home. The place was crowded buzzing with people from all walks of life. Everyone was eagerly looking forward to secure a seat in the bus. The much awaited bus came, I ran, I was pushed, I pushed, I was dragged, I dragged ...finally somehow I managed to get a seat. I was tired, my eyes wanted to close and indulge in the luxury of sleep, but on summer evenings Chennai's weather is brutal. I was sweating like a pig, this just meant that even though I got a seat to rest the environment won't permit me to sleep. A one hour sweaty journey was waiting for me. I was thinking how i'm gonna kill this one hour, how i'm  gonna live this one hour in a jam packed bus with as minimum air circulation as possible? The best idea will be to divert my mind from the crowd and the hot weather. I looked up-to the passenger sitting next to me, a middle aged man he was busy shouting at somebody (I guess his wife) over the phone. His temper was at its peak. My hopes of building a conversation with him to overcome the displeasures of this journey vanished in no time.

My hands reached the pocket, I took out my phone. I needed company so I looked around the contact list, shortlisted a few of my friends whom I though will be jobless enough to share my boredom. Shooted out a group sms saying "hi" to everybody. Five minutes passed by, no one replied...frustrated took my phone again, started checking my mails, I couldn't discover any purposeful mail in any of my 5 configured email accounts. Most of them were spam mails :( my next search was on, I searched the media applications installed in my phone. First one was twitter, gazed through some funny, some silly, some thoughtful tweets from the tweeple I followed. Atleast I could find some conversation going on from across different parts of the world. Motivated, I plunged my fingers on to my mobile's qwerty keypad and started venting out my emotions as tweets. Almost 15 - 20 tweets with a mood of anger/irritation were dished out in no time. Some of my followers in twitter replied back, ahh finally a breath of relief, atleast somebody is there to listen to my frustrations or emotions.I built conversation with some of my followers it was fun. I managed to engage myself for sometime.
Next I opened the facebook application on my mobile, read through all the notifications. Some of my friends shared some interesting links of videos..... some videos were thoughtful, some were provocative and some were simply a laugh riot! Thanks to the youtube application that enabled me to watch videos on my phone. I was juggling around facebook and youtube pages in my phone. Suddenly I saw a picture posted by one of my college mate on his wall. It was a photo taken during one of our final year campus recuitment sessions. The flashback mosquito coil started spinning around through the screens of my mind. Those wonderful memories of my college days came alive in front of me through the screen of my mobile. I was lost in memories, I forgot the bus journey, I forgot the jam packed crowd, I forgot the hot weather....my eyes slowly started to shut down and the memories started dancing around my thoughts...those days when I was a fresher at college, those days when I was ragged by my seniors, those days when I bunked classes to watch movies, those days when I fought with my friends for silly reasons, those days when me and my friends met at the tea shop opposite to the college everyday at 6, those days of daaru (alcohol) party, those days of crushes and proposals......ahh simply priceless. beep beep..beep beep, an sms came, I jumped out of my past memories to my day today realities. It was an sms from one of my friend to whom I said "hi" in the beginning of this journey. I woke up, my destination had arrived, half asleep I scratched my head towards the bus door and got down from the bus.
Looking back, today I miss my friends big time, there is no replacement for that. College days rock the memories are immortal. My phone - smart phone bridges this gap every time when I am in need of company. It helps me get new friends whom I may meet in the future through twitter and at the same time it helps me to keep in touch with my old (school friends and college friends) though facebook. Messages and phone calls are mostly reserved to people who rock my life in real time, my current friends (office & neighborhood), my family, boss, clients etc. Thanks to technology and thanks to smart phones. Today my smart phone has become an indispensable part of my life, I hope this is true with many of my wonderful readers also.

My Friends. My Life. My Phone

Hi friends, apologies for not being frequent with my writings. Hmmm its been quite sometime now, I am sorry guys, the main reason behind my absence from the blogosphere is the addiction towards micro-blogging these days -courtesy my smart phone :) Ok I will talk about that later in detail. Now let me tell you the reason behind this blog post. "I am greedy" oh yeah you read it right. I am greedy for winning a blog competition sponsored by indiblogger and Tata DOCOMO One Touch Net Phone.
To put in simple words I am gonna write about all the phones in my life and their love stories with me. It's gonna be a series of blog-posts coming your way, I guess there will be five back to back ones :) So ladies and gentleman here is the first one "My friends...My life...My phone....*tring*
incoming callImage by bcsia via Flickr                           In the year 2003 I joined college to start my UG adventure. Studies apart, the fun part of college life starts with girls for any guy for instance and I am no exception. Those were the days when my hormones worked overtime to schedule a strategy to impress girls in my college. Now how does that happen? Those days a guy with a bike, a fat wallet and a mobile phone was an instant hit! But even in my wildest of imagination also this was not possible.. why? why because my dad (Ex - Army) will simply hang me to death if I ask for a bike, mobile phone or pocket (fat) money. One of my weirdest reasons to finish college and get a job was to buy a mobile phone and release a show of mine impressing girls from all over the world..yahooo..here I come *grin*.
My first job, first salary I made it...yeah a samsung phone, flip model!! my shtyle quotient shooted up. Those days there was huge competition among the network service providers. Mobile phone market was young, private players like Hutch (now Vodafone) and Airtel were at their best in offering freebies and special plans to capture the market. Sms was free!! I used to dish out some 200 - 400 sms's a day with ease. My life shaped up to be fast, my friends circle gradually grew with the advent of a phone in my life. Funny forward messages were a real craze. There was always a competition among the friends who is cracking the best joke through sms each day. Believe me the free sms plans were really handy.
The phone was actually crying in my hands with the kind of pinches and pushes it had to take from my fingers while I dish out those innumerable sms's in lightning fast speed. The keypad's  numbers/alphabets print vanished within a month, but still it didn't make much difference. Typing text messages was the most important thing in my first mobile love story. Believe me I used to manage a whole month with Rs 5 balance in my prepaid account. Calling a number was a luxury which can be exercised only during emergency, rest all the messages were typed and posted. Frustrated by millions of kanjus youngsters like me the network service providers changed their mind and imposed tariff on sms-ing! was that the end ? no it was a begining of a new love story!! I will continue with it tomorrow ....seeya :))
